From the gigantic boss monsters to the beauty of a setting sun, and the leafy fronds of forest vegetation the game isn’t just technically impressive but beautifully designed as well.Īnother key difference from The Lost Vikings is the three-player co-op mode. It doesn’t necessarily come across so well in the screenshots but the attention to detail and sumptuous lightning makes it look like you’re wandering through the painted cover of a high fantasy novel. Then there’s the fact that the game is drop dead gorgeous, and we really do mean staggeringly beautiful. But running at 60 frames per second and 1080p this is one of the most attractive games on Sony’s new console – and it’s also one of the few to have a 3D option. Heavily influenced by 16-bit hit The Lost Vikings (made by Blizzard, back before their Warcraft days) Trine’s gentle action and perplexing puzzles aren’t the sort of gameplay that would normally seem to demand such extravagantly beautiful graphics. So here, for the launch of the PlayStation 4, is another chance not to miss out. Perhaps we’re underestimating its success, as its many different versions have slowly trickled out across a variety of formats over the last two years, but we certainly feel its gorgeous visuals go unfairly under-appreciated. Trine 2 is one of those games that really deserves to be a lot more famous than it is.
